Rather long hot day from Daly City to Santa Cruz. One horrible climb. Narrow with traffic. Other climbs were OK. Fog was a bit of a problem at the beginning of the day, but it burned off. We got in 81.25 miles. Details should show up in the route map.
I wanted to take a video of the heinous hill that almost caused me to sag seven years ago, but the fog was too thick. I'll find some other excuses to take video.
Tomorrow is 107 miles. Should be VERY hot. Gotta get some sleep.
More tomorrow.....
Tried to leave early for the Orientation. Not many breakfast places really close, so I have to walk through a bunch of homeless people. It was a very sad sight.
Flight to San Francisco was like a cattle car. But the weather in SF is WAY cooler than it is in Fort Worth. The clouds blowing over the hills south of the city was an AMAZING site on the way in from the airport. I wish I could have gotten a decent picture or video.
The hotel is adequate, but I'll be unconscious or away from it most of the time I'm here anyway. I'm hitting the sack early tonight. Tomorrow is a big day. Gotta take the bike to the Cow Palace for assembly, get finished with Orientation and figure out what I am going to do for a tent mate. The last time I left it up to chance, I ran into a friend I had not seen in about 10 years who had moved to California and was riding in the Ride.
I'm already meeting riders who are checking in. I can hardly wait for tomorrow. There will be lines in which to wait, for sure, but this is where the bonding begins. And it will be very good to see friends I have not seen for a year.
More tomorrow....maybe even pictures, but I'm not very fluent in HTML and I'm working from memory
