Day Subzero: 31 May 2007

My preparation for the trip over the past several weeks has paid off. I had only a little more packing to do this morning, so little in fact that I had about 90 minutes to spare before taking the dogs to the kennel. That was actually a strange feeling for me, since I usually do all of my packing on the day of the trip.

I got to the airport and only had to wait for one person in front of me! Could anything be much better than that?!

The flight to San Francisco was uneventful. Aisle seat in the exit row. I got to watch a couple episodes of "Drive", which turned out to be quite good!

The bike and my luggage made survived the journey just fine. I got a larger taxi to take me to the hotel, but it turned out he needed some help getting to the place. Fortunately, I had looked it up on the internet before I left.

The weather was delightfully blustery and cool when I got to the hotel. What a nice change. The weather in Fort Worth had not yet gotten too hot, but it was not as cool as this either. I could stand to stay in THIS for a while!

There were several Riders and Crew already at the hotel when I checked into Room 777. I got my duffle bag and bike box up to the room and text messaged Mikey. We made arrangements to meet at the bus stop to go get dinner in a couple hours. In the meantime, I thought I would try to put the bike together. I'd watched my bike technician take it apart - that paid off. I got it together with no problem at all!

Mikey and I got together and rode the bus to a place called Cha Cha Cha's where we ordered far too many tapas. We both got teary-eyed remembering past rides and events, but that is what we both expected would happen.

After packing up some of the leftovers for Mikey's roommate, we headed out to wander around and wait for a bus. It was getting to be a little cool and Mikey was not wearing a jacket. Furthermore, when he checked his computer to find out when the next bus would be around, he got no answer. So, we took a cab back and arranged a time to have dinner tomorrow night.
